A rare collection of floating tables, made from one fallen yellowwood tree of more than 400 years old.

The ancient trunk produced unusually wide slabs, between 1.2 and 1.6 metres. Each table is numbered, unique, and shaped by four centuries of growth.

The Tree

In 2022 a magnificent 40-metre high yellowwood tree fell at Kurisa Moya in an indigenous forest in Magoebaskloof.

Scientific carbon dating showed the tree was about 400 years old. Most large yellowwoods in this region were logged long ago, and remaining trees are now strictly protected.

This tree likely survived because it grew in a place that was hard to access.

The origin

The recovery of the fallen tree was difficult.

The trunk weighed about 15 tonnes, and parts of the operation were filmed and documented.

Thirty-five numbered floating tables were created from this single tree trunk.

No two tables are identical. Each is defined by its own cut, grain and markings. Each comes with its own certificate of authenticity.
